American football can be traced to early versions of rugby football. Both sports have their origin in varieties of football played in the UK in the mid to 19th century, where a football is kicked at a goal and or run over a line. Football resulted from several major differences from rugby.

Walter Camp is considered the father of American Football. Collegiate football’s popularity grew dramatically in the first half of the 20th century. Bowl games, which are affiliated with collegiate football, attracted national audience for collegiate teams due to the many intense rivalries within college teams.

Professional football can be traced back to 1892. In 1920 the American Professional Football Association now known as the National Football Association was formed with the name changing in 1922.

Baseball's roots are found in the English games of cricket and rounders, brought to the U.S. by English emigrants.

Rounders was played with four bases and involved as "feeder" who tossed the ball to to a "striker" who hit the ball with a stick. The striker was declared "out" if he swung and missed three times or if a defender caught a hit ball. The striker was also out if a defender threw a ball and hit him as he ran. Sound familiar?

James Naismith created basketball in 1891 after being asked by Luther Gulick to invent a new indoor game that the people could play during the winter months. Origins of the game came from a game called "Duck on a Rock" in which a guy would guard his "duck" from other players’ stones. The first official basketball game was played on December 29, 1891.

The United States Soccer Federation, also known as U.S. Soccer, was founded in 1913 and was one of the world’s first organizations to be affiliated with FIFA. Major League Soccer (MLS) was created in 1993, as part of the United States' bid to host the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and is a U.S. professional league, under the sanction of U.S. Soccer. The league currently includes 18 teams, two of which are in Canada, but had its first official season in 1996 with 10 teams.

The NLS season typically runs from March to November, with each team scheduled to play 34 games in the 2011 regular season. Ten teams will compete in the 2011 postseason MLS Cup Playoffs culminating in the championship game, MLS Cup.

Golf was first played on the coast of Scotland during the 15th century. The game was a little different back then, however. Golfers would actually hit a small rock or pebble in instead of a ball using a stick. Additionally, they would hit the rock around in the sand, rather than on grass like today. It wasn't until 1750 that golf became what we know it as today. In 1774, golfers in Edinburgh first wrote the Standardized Rules for the game.

Jack Nicklaus holds the record, with 18 Major tournament victories, and Tiger Woods is the only golfer since Nicklaus to give any indication of being able to break that record. Woods won ten Majors before turning 30 in 2005.
